North Mississippi Health Services and Medicare Open Enrollment Period
With the Medicare Open Enrollment Period approaching, North Mississippi Health Services has several updates of interest to individuals who are Medicare eligible and looking for individual health insurance coverage options for 2020.
“A lot can change with your health from year to year, and that makes Medicare coverage and the supplemental policies you purchase an important item when it comes to reviewing your health insurance coverage regularly” said Wally Davis, NMHS vice president.
The Open Enrollment Period, which is often called the Annual Election Period (AEP), will be Oct. 15- Dec. 7. During this time period, individuals can change their Medicare Advantage and/or Medicare Part D plans back to original Medicare or vice versa.
“Just like we see in the year-end open enrollment that most private, employer-sponsored health plans offer, Medicare's open enrollment is designed to give participants the flexibility to update their coverage to fit their particular needs,” he said.
Here are the latest updates as it relates to NMHS participation in carrier offerings specific to Medicare Advantage products and Medicare Supplement Plan options in the NMHS service areas:
- Medicare Supplement Plans – Many North Mississippi community members utilize traditional Medicare and purchase a Medicare Supplement policy and a Prescription Drug Plan (Part D Plan). North Mississippi Health Services accepts a long list of Medicare Supplement and Part D Prescription Drug plans; examples of Medicare Supplement plans that are available in Mississippi can be located on the Mississippi Department of Insurance website, www.mid.ms.gov.
- United Healthcare Dual Complete Plan – North Mississippi Health Services will serve as an in-network provider in a partnership with United Healthcare for a new Dual Complete Health Plan program being offered in our service area designed for individuals who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. United Healthcare will begin offering this product during the upcoming Open Enrollment Period and local insurance agents aligned with sales and marketing representatives from United Healthcare, will handle the distribution and customer service support aspects for the program.
For questions about the features of this product and member eligibility, please contact United Healthcare at 1-855-277-4716, TTY 711 (8 a.m. – 8 p.m. local time, seven days a week).
Humana Medicare Advantage - NMHS remains out of network for Humana Medicare Advantage for 2020, as NMHS and Humana failed to come to an agreement on a Medicare Advantage contract. As of Jan. 1, 2019, all NMHS healthcare facilities (hospitals, imaging and surgery centers) and employed physicians are out of network with Humana Medicare Advantage. Humana Commercial group members through employers’ sponsored health plans in the region are not affected.
