TUPELO, Miss.—Registered nurse Jennifer Ridgway of 3 South recently received North Mississippi Medical Center’s DAISY Award for October 2019.

Ridgway, who lives in Saltillo, earned an associate degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College and joined the NMMC staff in 2011.

A family member of a patient who had recently found out her cancer had spread nominated Ridgway, and the decision was made for the patient to enter hospice care. “Her appetite had greatly decreased, and she hardly ate any food,” the nomination states. “Jennifer asked her if there was anything in the world she could eat, what would it be? Mimi replied, ‘I think I could eat a sweet potato.’”

Ridgway bought the patient a sweet potato from the cafeteria, along with every topping available. “Thank you, Jennifer, for treating my family like your own, and for reminding me what nursing is all about,” the nomination states.

She received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch. Ridgway was also honored with the DAISY Award in July 2017.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. Nomination forms are available throughout NMMC or at For more information, call (662) 377-3431 or email
