Medicare Open Enrollment Period
Medicare beneficiaries who enroll in Medicare Advantage plans sometimes find themselves stuck in a plan that they do not like.
Although the plan’s Summary of Benefits covers the specifics of how the plan works, it’s all too easy for a beneficiary to misunderstand the rules or forget to check whether a North Mississippi Health Services doctor or hospital is in the network. (NMHS is not a network provider for Humana Medicare Advantage).
When is Medicare Open Enrollment Period?
The OEP is between January 1 and March 31 and allows beneficiaries who are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan to make a one-time change. Beneficiaries can use the Medicare OEP to:
• Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan
• Disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare, with or without a Part D drug plan.
Can Humana MA members change their plan to another policy accepted by NMHS?
Yes, during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period Humana MA members have the option of switching from one Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan, or disenrolling from Humana MA and returning to Original Medicare, with or without a Part D drug plan.
What Medicare Supplement options are accepted by NMHS?
North Mississippi Health Services accepts a long list of Medicare Supplement plans; examples of Medicare Supplement plans that are available in Mississippi can be located on the Mississippi Department of Insurance website. Please note that NMHS does not accept Humana Medicare Advantage and is considered out-of-network for this product.
