Summary

Learn how ongoing support, strong patient relationships and comprehensive care help drive long-term success.

One of my favorite things about bariatric surgery isn't the surgery itself. It's the relationships.

In fact, there are mornings before surgery when a patient will ask for a selfie before heading to the operating room. Those moments always make me smile because they represent something much bigger than a photo. They represent trust.

By the time many of our patients reach surgery day, we've spent months getting to know each other. They've shared their challenges, their goals and often very personal parts of their health journey. We've developed a relationship built on trust, communication and a shared commitment to improving their health.

That's something that makes bariatric surgery different from many other types of surgery.

Building Relationships Before Surgery

For many surgical procedures, a patient may meet the surgeon only once or twice before their operation.
Let's say you need your gallbladder removed. You come in for a consultation, we discuss your symptoms, we decide surgery is the right option and then I see you again on the day of surgery. Afterward, we may have one follow-up appointment.

That's a fairly typical surgical experience. Bariatric surgery is different.

Many of our patients see us four, five or even more times before surgery. During those visits, we're discussing nutrition, reviewing medical history, evaluating health conditions and making sure patients are fully prepared for the lifestyle changes that support long-term success.

By the time surgery arrives, we've already spent considerable time working together.

Trust Matters

Weight loss surgery is a major life decision.

Patients aren't simply choosing a procedure. They're choosing a team they trust to guide them through an important transformation in their lives. That trust develops over time.

As we meet throughout the process, patients have opportunities to ask questions, discuss concerns and gain confidence in their treatment plan. At the same time, we learn more about their goals, motivations and unique health needs.

By the sixth or seventh visit, we're no longer strangers. We've built a relationship. We've become part of each other's journey.

That's one reason those pre-surgery selfies can be so meaningful. They reflect the confidence and trust that have developed throughout the process.

The Support Doesn't End After Surgery

Another thing that makes our bariatric program unique is that surgery isn't the finish line. It's the beginning.
After surgery, patients continue seeing us for follow-up visits to monitor progress, address challenges and provide ongoing support.

Many patients will have four, five or six postoperative visits during their first year. When you add those visits to the appointments before surgery, a patient may see us ten or more times throughout his or her journey.

That ongoing relationship allows us to celebrate successes, troubleshoot obstacles and help patients stay on track as they adapt to a healthier lifestyle.

Long-term success doesn't happen because of a single operation. It happens because of consistent support and follow-up.

A Comprehensive Approach to Weight Loss

We believe the best bariatric care extends far beyond the operating room. Our program is designed to provide comprehensive support from beginning to end.

Patients have access to dietitians, nurse practitioners and exercise resources through our partnership with the Wellness Center. We coordinate care with specialists when needed and help guide patients through every step of the process.

Whether someone needs cardiology clearance, a sleep study, gastrointestinal evaluation or additional medical support, we help coordinate those services so patients aren't left trying to navigate the system on their own.
Our goal is to create a seamless experience that allows patients to focus on improving their health.

Committed to the Highest Standards

Our bariatric program is accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

That accreditation reflects our commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes and evidence-based care.
Our outcomes are tracked through national databases and evaluated against rigorous standards. Every aspect of patient care is measured and reviewed to ensure we're delivering the highest level of treatment possible.
We take that responsibility seriously because our patients place their trust in us every day.

We’re With You For the Long Haul

One of the things I tell prospective patients is that once you enter our program, you're not doing this alone.
We're committed to helping patients before surgery, during recovery and throughout the first year and beyond. We don't view bariatric surgery as a one-time event. We view it as a long-term partnership focused on improving health and quality of life.

Weight loss surgery can be life-changing, but lasting success requires education, support and ongoing guidance.

And that's why some of my favorite moments are those simple selfies on surgery day. They remind me that trust is at the center of everything we do and that helping patients improve their lives is about far more than performing an operation. It's about being part of their journey.
