Technology & Innovations
Guided by the needs of our patients and communities, we’re embracing technology and innovation to make care easier to access and move health care forward.
This year, we expanded digital tools that make care easier to access, navigate and personalize.
MyChart access: Patients can now sign up without an activation code, follow hospital or ER updates in real time while admitted and share approved proxy access with family members or caregivers.
Scheduling support: More appointments are available for self-scheduling on nmhs.net, while Fast Pass can offer earlier appointments when cancellations occur.
More connected care: The Epic implementation at our South Marion County hospital and clinics in Alabama created a more seamless experience across the system.
Choosing the right place for care: On My Way shows urgent care wait times and lets you save your place in line — without signing in.
E-Visits: Get care for common illnesses and minor health concerns online, anytime, from the comfort of home or office with convenient E-Visits.
Symptom Checker: Not sure where to go for care? Our symptom checker can help patients get the right care at the right place.
Innovation that Changes Lives
Here, innovation is more than advanced technology; it’s a way to bring safer procedures, new treatment options and better outcomes closer to home. This year our team accomplished the following:
Heart & Vascular
- Became the first in Mississippi to repair a leaky tricuspid valve using Abbott’s TriClip™ G5 Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) system, a minimally invasive device that treats tricuspid regurgitation in patients who aren’t candidates for open-heart surgery
- Performed our first thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair, bringing closer to home advanced minimally invasive treatment for a dangerous bulge in the body’s main artery
- Treated the first patient in Medtronic’s SPYRAL GEMINI Pilot program, which offers hope for people whose blood pressure remains difficult to control despite lifestyle changes and medication
- Performed our first minimally invasive coronary artery bypass procedure (MIDCAB) that improves blood flow to the heart using smaller incisions
- Implanted Mississippi’s first open-cell aortic stent to repair a life-threatening tear in the aorta
Neuroscience
- Implanted Mississippi’s first Vivistim® paired vagus nerve stimulation device for stroke survivors with ongoing arm and hand impairment. Used along with rehabilitation therapy, the device helps regain function and independence
Radiology
- Installed a hybrid interventional radiology suite that allows physicians to use fluoroscopy and CT imaging without moving the patient. The suite, which houses the Alphenix 4D CT system, supports highly precise procedures including certain targeted cancer treatments
Surgery
- Implemented Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols to help patients prepare for surgery and recover faster and as safely as possible
Smarter Support Systems
Implementing Workday across NMHS has consolidated and simplified many tasks related to finance, human resources and supply chain, which means more time can be spent on patient care than paperwork.

Renee Hudson arrived at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo in a wheelchair. Hours later, she walked out with renewed hope.
For years, debilitating back pain had slowly taken away the life the 41-year-old Fulton mother loved.
