Drink it Up!

Summary
Most of us don't drink enough water throughout the day.
Most of us don't drink enough water throughout the day. A lot of times, we hydrate with sugary sources that do not nourish our bodies well.
Our bodies are made up of 60-70% water. Water plays an important role in our health and metabolism. Not only does it help with digestion and elimination, but it also supports our joints and tissues which can help lesson some pain and discomfort. Water also supports a healthy immune system and can improve mood and energy levels.
We need adequate water to absorb nutrients. It also helps us manage or lose weight. It is often easy to mistake being thirsty with being hungry, especially if you crave more salty foods. Instead of drinking water, we go for an additional snack or eat a little more at a meal.
However, when we drink more water, we don’t feel the urge to snack as often, and it also helps with portion control. If you find yourself snacking too often or overeating at meals, try drinking water before eating. This “test” helps determine if you're really truly hungry or if your stomach feels empty.
The Institute of Medicine recommends consuming around 3.7 liters (15 to 16 cups) of water per day for males and 2.7 liters (11 to 12 cups) for females for adequate hydration. Start small and build up to the recommended amount.
Keep a water bottle or large cup of water within view to reminder yourself to drink up!
