About Me
Dr. Will Hathaway pursued a career in psychiatry later in life. A 1999 graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in film and television production from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2004.
For several years he worked in film and television production in Los Angeles before deciding he wanted to do something more beneficial to others.
He then worked at a Wilderness Therapy Program, where he was introduced to mental health as well as basic medical training to care for students. “That is what spurred me to go to medical school,” he said. “I saw the power of how caring for both someone’s physical and mental wounds can be and the transformation it can have on an individual.”
In 2014, he completed studies in cellular biology at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina before earning his medical degree from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Buies Creek, North Carolina, in 2019.
Dr. Hathaway completed psychiatry residency training at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, and Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
“Ultimately, I chose psychiatry because it allows me to combine my scientific curiosity with my passion for helping others,” he said. “I'm excited to dedicate my career to improving the lives of those who are struggling.”
Before joining NMHS in 2025, Dr. Hathaway provided psychiatric and substance abuse care in Asheville, North Carolina. He and his wife, Angie, have four children. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, fishing and camping.
