North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton will open its newly renovated Emergency Department on May 20.HAMILTON, Ala. – North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton will open its newly renovated Emergency Department on May 20.
As soon as the Emergency Services team members complete the transition on May 20, patients needing emergency care will enter through the renovated Emergency Department entrance on the north side of the hospital.
“Access to high quality emergency services is an essential part of our commitment to Hamilton and Marion County,” said Robin Mixon, administrator for North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton. “This project allows us to better protect patient privacy and support our Emergency Services team.”
The renovations to the Emergency Services Department are a part of a larger project that includes the Surgical Services Department. In all, the $1.49 million project covered 5,700 square feet of the Hamilton hospital with the aim of improving care for patients and families.
The Emergency Department renovation project converted a semi-private room to two private rooms, added a triage/overflow room and created a more efficient space for the team caring for emergency patients. Upgraded ventilation created three negative pressure rooms that can be used to help control the spread of airborne diseases.
“Our team works so hard to take care of patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” said Jennifer Brewer, chief nursing officer with North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton.
“They are so excited about the improved space and better privacy for patients and their families.”
As part of its 24-7 emergency care, North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamiliton offers stroke telemedicine services. Additionally, the hospital provides full-time access to medical imaging including CT and MRI.
Funding for the project came from North Mississippi Health Services and grants from the USDA and U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
