TUPELO, Mississippi — North Mississippi Health Services is pleased to welcome Jonathan Wadkins, MSN, PMHNP-BC, as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner serving patients at Burnsville Family Medical Clinic and Belmont Family Medical Clinic.
Wadkins brings nearly two decades of nursing experience, including 19 years as an emergency department registered nurse. Throughout his career, he developed a strong interest in caring for patients facing anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions, which led him to pursue advanced training as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of North Alabama and is committed to increasing access to mental health services in rural communities.
“I chose a career in health care because I want my life to glorify God by serving others and showing love to everyone in my community,” Wadkins said. “You never know what someone has been through or is currently facing. My goal is to help people find peace, joy and rest during difficult seasons of life and to ensure they never feel alone.”
Wadkins will care for patients in Burnsville and Belmont, where he has personal and family ties.
“I am deeply thankful to North Mississippi Health Services for launching this mental health program to serve Tishomingo County,” he said. “This is a rural and medically underserved community, and I truly believe this initiative will bring meaningful, tangible change to the lives of our friends and neighbors.”
His connection to the community spans generations.
“My family has lived in Tishomingo County for more than 200 years,” Wadkins said. “My grandfather served as president of the bank in Burnsville more than 50 years ago, and people still share stories about how he helped others. Hearing those stories shaped me, and my hope is that years from now, it can be said that I also helped care for and serve this community.”
Outside of work, Wadkins enjoys spending time with his family, reading the Bible, playing golf and going to the beach. He is married and has four children.
“Access to mental health care is essential for the overall health of our communities,” said David Barber, president of North Mississippi Medical Clinics. “Jonathan’s experience, compassion and strong ties to Tishomingo County make him an outstanding addition as we expand these important services in Burnsville and Belmont.”
