Training & Education

Everyone who is involved in research in any way is required to complete human subjects research training.  Refresher training is required every three years thereafter.

Please use the CITI Program Training Instructions to complete the required research training.

Students & Residents

All research projects that will take place within any NMHS facility or with any NMHS employees must be submitted to the NMHS Institutional Review Board for review.

Students and residents must ensure that their advisor reviews the project before submission to the NMHS IRB.

When the project requires a consent form, the NMHS IRB will review/approve and stamp the consent form to use. The stamped approved consent form will need to be used for each participant.

Participants must sign the stamped copy. If any changes are made to the project after NMHS IRB approval is obtained, a modification will need to be submitted to the NMHS IRB for review/approval.  At the conclusion of the project, the resident/student will need to submit a closure along with the results to the NMHS IRB.

When a consent form is appropriate for the case study, the NMHS IRB will need to review/approve and stamp the consent form to use BEFORE it is presented to the patient. The patient will need to be presented with and sign the stamped copy.

Exempt Projects

Some projects do not meet the definition of human subjects research. This will be determined by the NMHS IRB once all documentation is submitted. If the NMHS IRB determines that the project meets the criteria for exemption, an official letter will be issued.
