The North Mississippi Health Services Sleep Disorders Center-Amory is now open and available to patients.

The Sleep Disorders Center, located on the campus of North Mississippi Medical Center Gilmore-Amory, conducts sleep studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome.

“Sleep quality impacts your health,” said Stevie Crane, system director for sleep medicine for North Mississippi Health Services. “Accurately identifying conditions like sleep apnea transforms our patients’ lives.”

The Sleep Disorders Center in Amory has four private rooms for sleep studies. The center features prints of artwork from Amory Regional Museum.

While patients sleep, certified sleep technologists use sophisticated equipment to monitor sleep patterns, breathing, heart activity and body movements from an onsite control room.

Physicians certified in sleep medicine interpret the data gathered during a sleep study to diagnose and recommend treatment.

“Expanded access to sleep medicine services benefits the communities we serve,” said Jamie Rodgers, administrator for NMMC Gilmore-Amory. “We want to make it easier for the people who live in Monroe County to receive the health care they need.”

An estimated one-third of Americans suffer from some sort of sleep disorder or sleep disturbance. Untreated sleep disorders can contribute to serious medical conditions including high blood pressure, stroke, COPD, heart rhythm disorders, coronary artery disease, morning headaches, acid reflux, loud snoring, mood disturbances and sudden death.

The Sleep Disorders Center-Amory is located at 1127 Earl Frye Blvd. and can provide services for patients 13 years and older. Provider referral is required for sleep studies. For more information, call (662) 257-2390 or visit nmhs.net/sleep.

Sleep medicine consultations are available at Pulmonary Consultants in Amory and Tupelo and Starkville Pulmonary Clinic.

In addition to the new Amory center, North Mississippi Health Services Sleep Disorders Centers are available in Tupelo, Eupora, Iuka and West Point.
