NMMC Cancer Care connects our patients with a multidisciplinary team to help navigate through diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
When you are diagnosed with cancer, a team of physicians and other caregivers will work together to create an individualized treatment plan that works for your specific cancer and with your wishes for treatment.
A medical oncologist is the cancer specialist you'll probably see most often. Usually, your oncologist will oversee your general care and coordinate treatments with other specialists. Your oncologist will also be in charge of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy. You'll likely visit your medical oncologist for long-term, regular checkups.
NMMC oncologists actively contribute to research.

NMMC holds weekly cancer conferences that include the whole team of providers involved in cancer treatment - surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, medical and radiation oncologists, nurses, technicians and more. Each new cancer diagnosis is reviewed by this multidisciplinary group, and the treatment plan takes into account all the clinical viewpoints to ensure each patient gets the best care possible.
NMMC is an associate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System Cancer Community Network. NMMC is the only UAB Health System Cancer Community Network associate in north Mississippi. The UAB Health System Cancer Community Network was created to enhance cancer services in the Southeast by joining forces with community cancer centers to pursue high-quality patient outcomes, improve access to early detection and treatment, and provide optimal patient satisfaction. The program emphasizes collaboration between UAB and community cancer centers on evidence-based guidelines for cancer treatment. The association will give patients the added benefit of physicians and multidisciplinary teams collaborating with UAB physicians to pursue the highest quality of care, as well as enhanced access to additional cancer consultations, screenings and information on the latest clinical trials available.
