GME Programs

  • Family Medicine Residency

    The Family Medicine Residency Program at NMMC trains medical school graduates to become well-rounded family physicians through hands-on experience in hospitals, clinics and community settings. Residents care for patients across all stages of life, gaining skills in outpatient visits, hospital admissions, home care and long-term care. With personalized mentorship, advanced facilities and a supportive team, this fully accredited program prepares physicians to lead with compassion and deliver care that’s true to our communities. 

  • Internal Medicine Residency

    The Internal Medicine Residency Program at NMMC offers hands-on training in a 650-bed facility with the region’s only Level II trauma center. Residents gain experience in inpatient and outpatient care, including continuity through the Internal Medicine Residency Clinic. With access to advanced simulation labs, dedicated learning spaces and personalized mentorship, this program prepares future internists to lead with skill, compassion and purpose in a community-focused setting.

  • Cardiology Fellowship

    The Cardiology Fellowship Program at NMMC offers advanced training in cardiovascular care in a high-volume, technology-rich environment. Fellows gain hands-on experience in diagnostics, interventions and patient-centered care through a collaborative, community-based model. With access to leading-edge research and mentorship from experienced physicians, this program prepares future heart specialists to lead with excellence and compassion.

Allowance and Reimbursement

NMMC offers a $2,000 relocation allowance. The resident also receives $1,500 annually for educational use. NMMC reimburses mileage for required out-of-town rotations. Residents are eligible for the hospital retirement plan after their first year.

Insurance

NMMC offers a comprehensive insurance package for all residents. This package includes health, dental, life, disability, vision, pharmacy and liability insurance for the resident. The resident also has the opportunity to purchase additional insurance for spouse and family at a reduced rate.

Leave

Each resident is entitled to schedule 15 days of paid vacation a year and eight personal days off. All days are to be scheduled and approved in advance by the director of the Residency Program. Three days for conference/educational meetings are allowed annually.

Uniforms

White lab coats are provided by the department and laundered at no charge to resident. This includes two in your first year and one per year thereafter.

Professional Dues

Membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Medical Association (AMA) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is provided for residents.

Application Process

Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applications are reviewed, with a limited number of qualified applicants invited for an on-site interview. Candidates will be selected for interviews based on their ability to succeed in the program and their likelihood of contributing to the program’s goals. Criteria assessed during application review and interviews include the applicant’s patient care skills, medical knowledge, interpersonal skills, professionalism and ethics, capacity to conduct practice-based learning and the ability to work with others in systems-based care.
