Cardiology Fellowship

Training Tomorrow’s Heart Experts
The North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) General Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship is a comprehensive three-year program designed to provide the skills required for a successful career in clinical practice. Our Cardiovascular Diseases fellowship has ACGME approval for up to 12 fellows. Our state-of-the-art Heart and Vascular Institute allows us to provide unparalleled clinical training throughout the three years of fellowship.
Program Aims
The NMMC Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program Aims:
- Provide comprehensive advanced training in the care of cardiovascular patients.
- Provide a broad working knowledge of all the sub-specialties within cardiovascular medicine including the following diagnostic and procedural modalities:
- Cardiac Electrophysiology
- Interventional Cardiology
- Cardiac Imaging: CMR, CT, Echo, Nuclear, Cardiac PET
- Heart Failure / Cardiac Transplant
- Adult Congenital
- Clinical Research
- Prepare all fellows who leave our training program with the necessary clinical and procedural skills to successfully transition to general cardiology or further their education with sub-specialty cardiology training programs should they choose.
- Target that >90% of graduates will be board certified within 2 years of graduation.
Facility
Our Cardiovascular Fellowship Program is primarily located on the campus of our 650-bed rural health care facility in Tupelo, Mississippi, which houses the region’s sole Level II designated trauma center. The outpatient clinical experience is located nearby within the office complex of Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi.

First-Year Fellow | $71,136 |

Allowance and Reimbursement
NMMC offers a $2,000 relocation allowance. The resident also receives $1,500 annually for educational use. In addition, the program purchases and provides CATH-SAP for all fellows.
Insurance
NMMC provides a comprehensive insurance package for all fellows. This package includes health, dental, life, disability, vision, pharmacy and liability insurance for the fellow. The fellow also has the opportunity to purchase additional insurance for spouse and family at a reduced rate.
Leave
Each fellow is entitled to schedule 15 days of paid vacation a year and eight personal days off. All days are to be scheduled and approved in advance by the director of the residency program. Three days for conference/educational meetings are allowed annually.
Uniforms
White lab coats are provided by the department and laundered at no charge to the fellow. This includes two in your first year and one per year thereafter.
Professional Dues
Membership in American College of Cardiology Medical Association (ACC) and the Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) are covered by NMMC.
Application Process
All applicants should apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) website.
We require the following documents to be available for download through ERAS by Aug. 31 for a complete application to be reviewed:
- ERAS application
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Personal statement
- Three letters of recommendation including one from your current program director
- ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency — no exceptions.
Each application is reviewed in its entirety with an eye toward a combination of overall academic excellence, leadership ability, career development potential and personal character. The program accepts up to four fellows per year.
We anticipate interviewing 50 candidates for the cardiovascular disease program each year. Although we receive applications from many well-qualified candidates, it is not possible to interview all who apply. Every effort is made to notify applicants of their interview status in a timely manner in order to all sufficient time for making travel arrangements.
The night prior, our current fellows will host a welcome dinner. Each candidate will interview up to three faculty members.
